359. Set of Six Bavarian Cups with Silver Holders and Liners
Lot of six German silver cup holders with matching liners and porcelain inserts. Porcelain demi-cup is hand decorated along rim with a blue and gilt design. Bottoms of cups are marked Kronesten Bavaria and with decorators number. Cups fit into holder which is stamped with egg and dart pattern. Cups measure apprx 2-1/4"H; holders apprx 1-1/2"H x 2"W; and liner 4". All silver stamped 800.

Solid sterling inlaid and electroplated with gold. Limited edition from the Franklin Mint and issued by the Bicentennial Council of the thirteen original states. First in series honors Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration. The words "We hold these truths to be self-evident - Thomas Jefferson" line the rim. Plate measures apprx 8"D. 364. A Victorian Tussie-Mussie Posy Holder, circa 1800's
Ladies in the formal Victorian 1800's filled these "nosegays" with fragrant bouquets to make their stroll along the streets more aromatically pleasing, before public sanitation. Tussie refers to a knot of flowers and Mussie refers to the moist moss that kept the flowers fresh. Later in the 19th and early 20th Centuries they were romanticized as a fashion accessory for young ladies to hold the flowers brought by courting "gentleman callers". To show her acceptance of him, she skewered the flowers into the posy holder with a long pin and wore the holder to a ball. Attached to her hand by a chain and a ring, it swung free while they danced. Silver plate, apprx 5-1/4"L.

Lot includes one Gorham file with a handle design of poppies. Handle is hollow. Measures apprx 8". The second file handle has an incised floral design and measures 7-1/2". Both feature tapering files attached to decorative handles. Button hook measures apprx 9". All hallmarked and stamped Sterling.
