602. A Lot of Valentine Scraps
Lot includes 28 small embossed items which were intended to be pasted onto valentines. "Scraps" were printed using a chromo-lighographic technique, then coated with a gelatin and gum layer which gave the finished sheets a glossy surface, and finally embossed. Originally these images would have come on a single page to be punched or cut out by the Valentine maker. 18 depict a ladies hand holding either a message bearing fan or else a bouquet of flowers. 4 are simple bunches of flowers. One features a woman's silouhette in an urn of flowers. Three are rectangles bearing poetry and floral images, and one is a tiny pink envelope which can be opened to reveal a small card with graphite script.

603. A Lot of Victorian Easter Cards
Lot features four Easter cards. First of lot reads "With the Season's Greetings" and bears an image of a young girl reading a note. Verso has a poem by Eden Hooper and as an ink inscription "Annie". Second of lot is a Holy Card, La Dèvotion au Saint-Cur de Marie, Devotion to the Holy Heart of Mary and depicts a young woman kneeling before an apparition of the Virgin Mary. Third item is an embossed card with Primroses and reads "Every joy attend you". Last of lot is a small, embossed folding card featuring Lilies of the Valley and "Christ has Risen" on the front with interior wishes for "A Joyful Easter-Tide" and a small poem as well as a hand written note. Verso has publishing information.

604. Lot of Two Large Valentines, circa 1880's
Lot includes two fancy, fold out Valentine cards. First of lot has cream lace paper decorated with scraps of children and flowers and a small printed greeting of "Affections offering". Top layer attached to front by way of four paper hinges so as to give a "3-D" or "pop-up" effect. Card is made from embossed paper with a lacy edge and has a printed poem, "Love's Treasure", on the interior. "1880" inscribed in graphite on verso. Measures apprx 7" x 4-1/2". Second of lot is has two layer of lace paper decorated with scraps of putti, a stork and a message of "My heart is Thine". The second layer is backed with blue silk. The embossed and color printed card has a hole in the center through which one can see a snowy cottage scene embellished with glitter. Measures apprx 8-3/4"H x 5-3/4"W.

605. Lot of Six Large Valentines
First of lot has a collage of floral garland scraps around a Cupid hatching out of an egg, a small note reading "Be happy" and a gilt bird. Paper is embossed with a lace pattern and verso has a hand written poem. Measures apprx 10"H x 8"W. Second Valentine has embossed paper with a lace pattern frame on a blue background. Center has a small folded square and painted flowers. A poem is inscribed in ink on top and bottom. Card opens but interior is blank. Measures apprx 10"H x 8"W. Third card has delicate lace cut paper as cover. Central design of a female silhouette is backed by white satin and topped by a portrait of George Washington, and surrounded with other small floral scraps. It is inscribed "To, My dear Tiny". The makers name Mansell is indicated by a tiny arrow on left side. Blank interior has embossed lace design and a collectors stamp with the name Lillian Newton Stone. Measures apprx 9-3/4"H x 7-3/4"W. Fourth Valentine is made from embossed, cream colored embossed paper. Center holds a tiny envelope with small printed poem inside. Envelope is surrounded by a garland with hand painted flowers and a small scrap reading "I never shall forget". A poem is hand inscribed in interior of card and is date Feb. 14, 1837. Measures apprx 9-3/4"H x 8"W. Sixth of lot is cut lace paper with a small heat doily backed with pink paper with tiny cut our and hand painted flowers and reading "To my Love!". Around center is a hand written poem and is dated February 14, 1845, New York. Interior is blank. Measures apprx 9"H x 7-1/4"W. Last Valentine is a sheet of lace cut paper on which is hand written a love poem. Interior is blank. Measures apprx 10"H x 8"W.

606. Lot of Two Hand Colored Valentine Prints, Early 19th Century
First of features an oval scene of a young woman playing a lute while a gentleman spies from behind a tree. Surrounded on all four sides with hand written verse. Interior shows paper water-mark reading Fellows 1819. Measures apprx 9-3/4" x 7-3/4". Second Valentine displays a scene of a woman receiving a note from Cupid, at her feet are a pair of love birds. A hand written poem boarders the image on all four sides and around the edge, a hand-painted border of garland and flowers. Measures apprx 9-3/4"H x 7-3/4"W. Watermark is Smith & Allmutt 1821.

607. Lot of Three Hand Colored Prints with Embossed Sides
Lot of three Valentines feature hand colored scenes of lovers that are framed with floral embossed borders. First of lot depicts a man and woman conversing. He wears a top hat and a lute and guitar are near by. Second in lot displays a man and woman sitting on a bench. He holds her hand and they sit beneath a bird cage while a dog sleeps at her feet. The last of lot shows an gentleman holding the hand of a woman seated at a piano. Each Valentine also features a love poem in script and measures apprx 10"H x 8"W.

608. Lot of Four Hand-Colored Valentines with Embossed Sides
Each Valentine in lot features a hand colored image surrounded by an embossed border. First of lot displays two woman, one stands and comforts her weeping sister. The second valentine shows a love-sick young woman standing in a forrest with a distant church spire. Third image depicts a pretty noble woman looking out of her winter waiting to send a love letter. Last of lot features a woman dressed in a fancy yellow dress looking out a window thinking of her lover. All also have a short hand-written verse to accompany the image. All measure apprx 10"H x 8"W.

Lot includes a hand painted Valentine decorated with a scene of tiny cupids and scrolling patterns reminiscent of the illuminate manuscripts of the Middle Ages, and a finely printed poem. 611. Lot of Three Collage Valentines, circa 1870's
Lot includes two similar "Pop-up" Valentines made with a double foil lace paper frame. Each has scraps of violets, forget-me-nots, a hand holding pansies reading: "Sincerely Thine" and a bird bearing a ribbon banner reading "Hope". One has a central image a little girl with flower baskets, the other has a cupid; both pasted onto maroon silk. Both foil covers open to reveal a gilt poem printed onto a sheet of lavender paper. Measure apprx 7"H x 4-3/4"W. Third of lot has white lace paper (by Wood) over a red paper background decorated with a blue butterfly and a bouquet of narcissus. The central panel can be opened to reveal a cock. Cover peels back to show interior with a poem and fairy image printed by Momberger, Cogger SC. Measures apprx 7"H x 4-3/4"W.
