25. Charles Grafton Dana (American, 1843-1926)
"Amor Ben Assen, Tunis, 1897". Oil on artist's board, signed upper right, inscribed on verso and dated. The artist lived in Florida in the late 19th Century and was part of the St. Augustine Art Colony along with such artists as Otto Henry Bacher, Marie à Becket and George Seavey. Dana traveled in the Mediterranean in 1897 and created several works and studies which fall under the category of Orientalist School, however the artist is mostly know for his American landscapes. Artist's board apprx 8-5/8" x 6-2/8", overall with frame apprx 10-1/4" x 8".

"Moses". Dramatic painting on canvas, framed, depicts a majestic Moses. Two rays of light beam from his head as a sign of God's favor. He wears a red cloak and his iconic long beard. Fine brush strokes and baroque palette. Signed illegibly on lower right. Stretched on original four key, bracket structure. Verso has two export wax seals. Measures apprx 24" H x 19-1/4"W. With simple frame, entire item measures apprx 27"H x 22-1/2" W.

Seashore Song. Oil on canvas, framed. Image depicts a young man, playing a lute while resting against rocks on the seashore. He wears a red cap, rolled pants and is barefoot. Beyond him a boat is anchored with more boats sailing in the background. Both sea and sky are bright blue. Brushwork is smooth and highly detailed. Measures apprx 14-1/2"H x 11"W. 29. Edward MacGregor (American, active 1853-1872)
Historical Painting. Oil on canvas, painted after an engraving. Verso describes subject of painting as "Drake playing bowls on the sea front before going to set sail to fight the arriving Spanish Armada". Costumes are highly detailed and subject matter is amusing. Signed on lower left hand corner. Verso has artist information and states the painting was shown in an exhibit for the Maryland Historical Society, in 1856. Measures apprx 13"H x 17"W. With gold colored liner and carved wood frame, entire item measures apprx 17-1/2"H x 21"W.

Portrait of a Gentleman. Oil on canvas, framed. This gentleman is dressed in a musketeer-like outfit, including sash, gauntlets and plumed hat. Situated near the exterior of a castle, the gentleman plays a fanfare on his horn. Image measures apprx 12" x 16". Signed "F. LeBrun" in lower left, very faint marking indicates a date which may be 1894(?). Framed, this piece measures apprx 17-1/2" x 22".
