"Jeu Deux", or "play two". Oil on board signed and dated lower right 1965. Yellow background in graduated tones support a musical motif in grey tones. Framed, overall apprx 12-1/4"T x 16-1/4"W. Born as Charles Elmer Harris in Cleveland Ohio, he changed his name in the 1960's, which translates to "Son of Ethiopia". He rarely exhibited or sold his work and was affiliated with the African-American artists' "Sho-nuff Art Group" and the Karamu House and studied under Cleveland Artist Paul Travis. His style is very diverse and he experimented with Cubism, portraiture and abstractions in series. He received little recognition during his lifetime and was only "rediscovered" literally days after his death when hundreds of his paintings were rescued by an art dealer.

Born as Charles Elmer Harris in Cleveland Ohio, this largely self-taught artist changed his name in the 1960's, which translates to "Son of Ethiopia". Kosh rarely exhibited or sold his work and was affiliated with the African-American artists' "Sho-nuff Art Group" and the Karamu House and studied under Cleveland Artist Paul Travis. His style is very diverse and he experimented with Cubism, portraiture and abstractions in series. He painted mostly for his own pleasure during his lifetime as an artist and only became recognized days after his death when hundreds of his paintings were rescued from oblivion and sold to an art dealer.

Pair of famous American city scenes executed in the artist's trademark quaint illustrative style with loose brush strokes. In the New York image, one can see a double decker bus and horse drawn carriages. San Francisco features a couple of trolleys and sign for Fisherman's Wharf. Signed lower right. "Seated Nude", circa 1960's. Oil on artist's board, estate stamped on verso. Overall with frame apprx 3--1/4" x 22-1/4". The artist spent time in the Merchant Marines and the backdrop for the sitter is evident of a location from his European travels. The juxtaposition of the complimentary colors of yellow and purple are married in tone in the figure. The most striking and interestingly odd feature is the stark white shoes worn by the sitter.
