567. Letter by A. Edward Newton, June 1928
A typed letter by American essayist, bibliophile, and author Alfred Edward Newton (1863-1940) to Boies Penrose , dated June 30th, 1928. The letter descusses the contribution of a Caxton to a library, the finished of a print room and book donation, followed by a campy closing, stating "I cannot close this letter without suggesting that it was rather mean of you to go abroad just as we were begining to get aquinted with each other." Typed on Old Hamshire water marked paper, signature is correct and in black ink, paper apprx 10-5/8" x 8-1/8". This would be a neat addition to and bibliophiles collection.

Antique poster advertising "Atlantic for November" by R.L. Emerson. Black ink printed on yellow paper, with R.L. Emerson in lower right corner. Measures apprx 12" x 16". This lithograph is of a steamer sailing across the Atlantic. Poster is in fairly good condition, with tears throughout the edges.

574. A Hand Colored Woodblock Book Marker by William Lescaze & William Sommer, circa Early 20th Century
Created by the two Kokoon Klub members for the famous Cleveland book seller Richard Laukhuff Books. Woodblock print in black ink on cream colored stock paper, later hand colored by Sommer and given as tokens with purchases bythe bookseller. Measures apprx 6" x 2-1/2".

575. Two Fashion Pochoirs, circa Early 20th Century
The first is from a German oublication and it titled "Im Park" and depicts to fashionable ladies in fall wear. Image apprx 7-3/4" x 5-7/8", overall paper with printed text in German apprx 12-1/4" x 9-1/2". Second is printed on brown tissue and shows a stylish woman with a dog. Overall paper apprx 7-1/2" x 4-3/4".

"Battledore", original lithograph by Robert Anning Bell dated 1896 and titled and signed in the plate. A very good mpression published in The Studio, Vol. 10, 1897, with their blindstamp located lower left. Overall apprx 11-1/2" x 8".
"Herodias", original lithograph by Robert Anning Bell, dated circa 1900, titled and signed in the plate. Another very good impression on laid paper, published by The Studio with blindstamp, lower right. Overall paper apprx 11" x 7-3/4", with original tissue guard attached.
"The Patchwork Quilt", original woodcut in colors by West, J. Walter, dated 1895, signed and titled in the plate. A very good mpression published in The Studio, Vol. 6, 1896, with their blindstamp located lower left. Overall apprx 11" x 7-3/4".
The Studio was the preeminent art journal ofthe Arts and Crafts movement. Founded in 1893 by Charles Holmes in London, it promoted an equalpresentation of the fine and applied arts.

577. Riccardo Zandonai Manuscript Score
Manuscript page from the opera "I Cavalieri di Ekebu." Unsigned, black ink on wove paper, two sided. Apprx 11" x 8-1/4".
Zandonai is important because he is pretty much the last of the line of Italian lyric composers. Ekebu had its premiere in 1925, a few months after Puccini's Turandot was completed by Franco Alfano and a few months before its premiere.

Spencer, Esq (1769-1834), with designs by the right honourable Lady Diana Beauclerc. 35pages & 5 full page engravings (including frontispiece) & 4 vignette illustrations. Engraved by Bartolozzi & Harding. Cover missing, marbled end paper intact. Folio size.
A wonderful example of the illustrative work of Lady Diana Beauclerk, the translator's aunt. She was an esteemed amateur artist of the period and close neighbour and friend of Horace Walpole.
