| 347. Tuttle Sterling Gravy Boat, early 20th Century
American sterling silver serving piece sits on three feet and features curvy handle and a wide lip in the George II style. Bottom reads Sterling 33 George II Period and is hallmarked with pine tree schilling mark and crescent moon. Measures apprx 4-1/4"H x 4"W x 7"L. Weighs apprx 9.4 Troy oz. Pine Tree Schilling symbol which is the trademark for Tuttle, GEORGE II Period REPRODUCTION, the crescent with the initials of Calvin Coolidge under that is the Roman numeral III. Calvin Coolidge was President from 1923-1929. In 1890, Boston silversmith Timothy Tuttle was first commissioned by wealthy families to copy old English silver. His original pieces were dated in the English custom with the crest of the reigning monarch. During the term of office of President Calvin Coolidge, Tuttle adopted this custom, marking each piece with a crescent and the initials of the incumbent President of the United States.
