14. Naive Rondel, Anglo-Irish, circa 18th Century

Oil on milk glass, framed under original rolled glass in a circular brown velvet frame. Simple image of a town depicts a village church with people walking nearby. Flat painting style could be described as "naive" or self-taught; with very good attention to small details of the scene. Round, white glass on which the painting is done is concave to give the illusion of depth. No signature found. Frame is moss green velvet that has faded to brown. Painting measures apprx 13-1/4" diameter, with frame, apprx 19" diameter.
