| 316. Creche Figure, circa 18th Century
A poured wax figure of the baby Jesus, originally displayed in nativity scene. Wax head and shoulders, arms and legs. Body is cloth and appears to be stuffed with straw and hair appears to be human hair. The eyes, which appear to be glass, are detailed with pick in the corners as well as having applied hair for lashes and brow. Painted red mouth is hollow and has visible teeth. Hand made silk dress has gold cords and thread decoration with gold bands and balls. Figure has cloth under garments with lace. Baby is wearing a pilgrim medal with a view of the Virgin and a cathedral on the verso. No visible tags or marking found on the doll. 500/800 Sold $345.00 back to catalog |
