263. Pair of Chairs in "High Victorian" Style

Matching pair of parlor chairs feature black horse hair upholstery and dark wood frame. Crest of chair has carved acorns and sides have a carved dangling swag. Legs and side buttresses are also carved. Round seat trimmed with ribbon and back is tufted. Front legs have wheels attached to feet. Measure apprx 36-3/4"H x 16"W x 19-1/4"L, circa 1837-1901.

The Victorian Era named for the reigning Queen of England, Victorian, spans the years of her rule 1837-1901. The aesthetic taste of the time was characterized by a appreciation for the somber and extravagant.
