| 455. A Vienna Decorated Vase, circa late 19th Century
A large hand painted urn in a bronze ormolu mounting. Front of vase features a round painting of two adults finding a sleeping cupid in very colorful polychrome enamels. Verso has a smaller rondel with Cupid and arrow. Both scenes are surround by raised dot work and robin's egg blue borders which extend throughout the body of vase. Sides have two marquis shaped vignettes of standing cranes in gilt on a lapis blue background. Overall background color is a dark rose/cranberry. Gilt fern heads and swags decorate borders. Bronze tripod base is little gilt left, however very nice with shell and scroll motif. Upper bronze "crown" at rim has lovely open work, also missing much of the original gilt detail. Apprx 11-1/4"T overall. Verso stamped "231", "C" and over glaze blue beehive mark. 400/600 Sold $299.00 back to catalog |
