| 152. Jean-Jacques Berne-Bellecour (French, 1874-1939)
A First Empire Chasseur a Cheval in a field uniform on horseback with young attendant watering his horse, circa 1904. Graphite on paper board, signed lower right. Graphite is heightened with white wash and red and blue, faintly in the military uniforms. An early work by the young artist, however with much attention to detail and technical skill. Measures apprx 9"H x 13-1/4"W. Berne-Bellecour studied under his father, Etienne Berne-Bellecour, Gerome, and Edouard Detaille. As a realist painter, his first works were military paintings. He presented these works art in Mulhouse, Lille, Douai, and Lyon. His art was exhibited at the Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and the Salon des Independantes from 1926-1939. His paintings were part of exclusive private collections, such as General Pershing, Leblanc, Desmarais, Clemenceau, and Queen Alexandra. 700/1,000 Sold $345.00 back to catalog |
