135. Enrico Tarenghi (Italian, 1848-1938)

"After Prayers". A beautifully rendered, unsigned watercolor on wove paper, however believed to be by the hand of the artist. Framed in a period gilt wood frame and under glass with a tag on verso from the J. George Mayer Gallery, Cleveland, Ohio. The artist used similar figures in his renditions of the mosques, including architecture, lamps, shoes and carpets. Tarenghi copied himself the most, turning out the same compositions and locations with slight differences. This work may be summarized by the figures, architecture and lamps depicted in the work titled "La Piere A La Mosquee" on page 253 of "Les Orientalistes De L'Ecole Italian" by Caroline Juler, as depicted in last photo in details page. Paper apprx 29"H x 21"W, overall with frame apprx 34"H x 26"W.
