| 345. A Silver Tazza, circa 19th Century
Possibly an earlier piece, this repousse relief of King of Sassanian Empire, (circa 5th-7th century A.D). in a typical setting of ancient Persian mythology. The material is comprised of two silver sheets, married at the rim with a fold. The tapered base is hollow and is also presumed to be silver. Oxidation throughout giving a lovely patina on bottom. Apprx 9"D x 1-1/2"T. The Sassanian empire lasted from 226 AD through the 7th Century. The borders of the empire stretched to include all of modern Iran and parts of Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the Gulf Coast of the Arabian peninsula.
