| 157. Attributed to Edward Howard Suydan (American, 1885-1940)
Lot includes four pencil drawings on paper: "Rear Side Cathedral" (apprx 11"H x 14-1/2"W), "Open Air Market"(apprx 10-3/4"H x 14-1/4"W), "Country Church" (apprx 10-1/2"H x 14-/4"W), and "Decantur Street" (apprx 10"H x 13-1/4"W). The first three are from a series entitled "Pattern of Mexico" and depict scenes of daily life and architecture. "Decantur Street" is titled on lower left. Each verso has a descriptive tag on verso. With off-white mat and simple black frame, each item measures apprx 16-1/4"H x 21"W. Lot also includes a framed color copy of an original photograph (attached to verso) of the artist at work. Edward Howard Suydan was born in New Jersey and spent most of his professional life in New York City. However, in 1940's he spent much time in California during which he illustrated the books including "Los Angeles, City of Dreams" and "San Francisco, A Pageant". 300/500 Sold $494.50 back to catalog |
