137. Two Works by Captain Edward Jones, circa early 19th Century

1)"Valencia, 1. Oct. 1833", ink wash on paper. Verso inscribed by the artist "Window in an antique house of a Nobleman in Valencia-Spain 1. October 1830's-Tuesday" and signed by the artist. Paper apprx 7" x 5-3/4". 2)"Foligno, 3. June 1818", ink wash on paper. Verso inscribed by the artist "Italy, Holy Water Vessel at Folign..." and signed by the artist and dated. Paper apprx 4-1/2" x 6-1/4". We have been cataloguing the sketches works on paper of Captain Edward Jones over the last year. During his European tour, he has offered a view of the past by documenting villages, towns-people and landscapes. His detailed accounts of his surroundings and playful use of light and shadow lend something more than any amatuer illustrator could create.
