529. Augustan Golden Age (1694-1763) Book of Engravings, probably from The Royal Collection of Dresden

In part, a bound book/folio of copper plate engravings on rag paper, circa 1740. Each page apprx 19-1/2" x 13-1/4". Numbered plates start at #126 and finishes with 198, all of which are very good impressions, images of sculptures, friezes, mummies, and Egyptian pottery. The last part has a title page "Suite de Marbres Modernes & c." This section highlights Roman and mythological subjects in sculpture. The are hand number plates, starting at 210 and ending with 208 and are out of order. Title page has a royal emblem of Augustus II, 1670–1733, king of Poland (1697–1733). A patron of the arts, Augustus greatly embellished Dresden. Apprx 74 plates overall, not including the title page for the last part. This is probably volume II of a two volume set, the first probably engravings of paintings.
