Mirror frame is English sterling silver hallmarked with DM Co. With an anchor, rampant lion facing left, L, and monarch's profile in cartouches. Beautiful letter box made of lacquer and light tortoise shell. Hinged lid features a marsh scene with bamboo and two cranes, a symbol of fidelity. Landscape is accented with inlays of mother of pearl. Interior showcases the lacquer technique of "hira-makie", or the misty effect created by sprinkling gold dust into the wet lacquer. Bottom is black. Box measures apprx 3"H x 10-3/4"L x 8-1/4"W.
