A glazed tomb item, representing a granary for food storage in the after-life. This piece was probably in burial. White earthenware grainery with high fired green lead glaze with iridescence and craquelure overall . Fluted "roof" with a central door, small openings at sides of door and sides near roof. Appx 14-1/2"T x 12"W x 6"D.

564. Two Funerary Earthenware Figures (China, Ming Dynasty)
Lot includes two male earthenware standing figures hand painted with pigments. Both figurines wear a tall black cap, green robes. One holds a wheel, across his chest, under his left arm. Measures apprx 16"H. The second figure carries a tri-lobed object (possibly a hat) in his right hand. Measures apprx 15-1/2"H. Both figures are hollow and stand on a raised hexagonal base.
Figures such as these often were buried with the deceased to serve and provide comfort items for the after world. The number, quality and size of these figures were an indication of status.

Hollow earthenware figure is painted with colored pigments. She wears a full robe in green and yellow lead glaze and features a knotted hairstyle and a round face. Figure bears a comb. She stands on an octagonal base and measures apprx 13-1/2"H.

"Swallows on Wisteria" and "Iris and Frog". Pair of "kacho-e" or nature prints on tan colored paper, framed under glass. Both signed with Japanese characters on left side. Title and artist names, Gesso (1881-1936) and Giosui, written in graphite below images. Mounted onto embossed tan mat. Image measures apprx 9-1/2"H x 4-3/4"W. With thin silver colored frame, entire items measure apprx 14"H x 7"W.
