Beautiful letter box made of lacquer and light tortoise shell. Hinged lid features a marsh scene with bamboo and two cranes, a symbol of fidelity. Landscape is accented with inlays of mother of pearl. Interior showcases the lacquer technique of "hira-makie", or the misty effect created by sprinkling gold dust into the wet lacquer. Bottom is black. Box measures apprx 3"H x 10-3/4"L x 8-1/4"W.
