115. School of Hendrik Willem Schweickardt (German, 1746-1797)

Pair of cows. Pastel with gouache on laid paper, framed under glass. Sweet study with delicate lines depicts two cows, one standing and one reclining. Signed in graphite on lower right. Paper measures apprx 7-1/4"H x 8-3/4"W. Framed with custom made mat with gold leaf and rubbed wood frame. Entire item measures apprx 11-3/4"H x 12-1/2"W. Biographical information on verso. Provenance: From a prominent Cleveland, Ohio estate.

Schweickardt painted portraits and landscapes, designed tapestries, but was also well known for his graphic works.
