Marlano Fortuny (Spanish, 1871-1949) developed a unique process for printing textiles. In his youth he traveled widely and practiced in a variety of artistic media. He entered the textile business through fashion design. He used his own formulation of dyes and pigments based on ancient techniques of the masters. His factory, on the Venetian Island of Giudecca, still produces fabrics by the same techniques.
