"The Corral". Lithograph on paper, matted and framed under glass,1948. Associated American Artists edition of 250, Fath 71. Rural scene depicts cow hands and a horse. Scene depicted in languid lines as typical of Benton; directly from his experience in his origins in rural Missouri. Signed in graphite on lower right. Measures apprx 9-1/2"H x 13-1/2". Verso bears biographical imformation which was originally provided with the print. With off white mat and wood frame, entire item measures apprx 15-1/4"H x 19-1/4"W. Thomas Hart Benton was born on April 15, 1889 in Neosho, Missouri. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Paris and New York, after which he settled in Kansas City Missouri. He is considered one of the foremost Regionalist Movement artists of his time, known for his murals, paintings, and prints that exemplify Midwestern life during the WPA era.
