| 114. A Pair of Engravings by Maria Catherine Prestel (English, 1744-1794)
"The Country Girl in London" and "The Country Girl at Home", both after original paintings by George Morland. Both published ca. 1792, London. Prestel worked with great success in London from 1786 until her death in 1794. Her plates, which are usually etched, show traces of aquatint and few are engraved entirely in this manner. Both pieces have tag from Vixseboxse Art Galleries, Cleveland, OH. Both are also like framed in maple wood and French mats. Images measure apprx 14" x 9-7/8", overall with frame apprx 23-7/8" x 18-1/4". 200/400 Sold $172.50 back to catalog |
