Pennsylvania I.R.A. appointment for William J. Wainwright, signed by current president Abraham Lincoln (1809-April 15, 1865) and Secretary of the Treasury. Framed under glass. Printed on watermarked "John C. Clark Philadelphia" paper with individual blanks hand scripted. Blind stamp on lower left. Measures apprx 15-3/4"H x 19"W. With black frame, entire item measures apprx 17"H x 20-1/2"W. Lot also includes a photo-card, framed, under rolled glass after the image by Alexander Gardner. Image shows a formal seated portrait of Lincoln and his son, Thaddeus, "The last Photograph the President sat for" taken on April 10, 1865. Image measures apprx 8"H x 6-1/4"W. With white mat and gilt frame, entire item measures apprx 14-1/4"H x 12-1/2"W. Document reads: Abraham Lincoln. President of the United States. To all to whom these Presents shall come. Greeting. Know Ye, That, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity, Diligence and Discretion of William J. Wainwright, I have nominated , and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate , do Appoint him Collector of Internal Revenue for the Third Collection District of Pennsylvania and do authorize and empower him to execute and fulfill the duties of that Office, according to law, And to have and to hold the said Office with all the rights and emoluments thereunto legally appertaining unto him, the said Wm. J. Wainwright during the pleasure of the President of the United States for the time being. In testimony where of: I have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the Treasury Department of the united States to be hereunto affixed.
