"Los Caprichos: La filiacion" (the relationship) Plate 57. No visible watermark, cream colored wove paper. The eighty etchings of "Los Caprichos" were the first collection Goya produced for sale as a single set. In 1803, fearful of the Spanish Inquisition, Goya relinquished the plates to Charles IV, in return for a pension for his son. The plates remain with the Calcografia, issued in the ensuing years by that institution. Apprx 8-5/8" x 5-7/8" plate mark. Overall measures apprx 11-7/8" x 9-3/8". 100/200 Sold $304.75 back to catalog |
