| 607. Chinese Export Cheroot Tray, circa 1850
The cheroot tray is an extremely rare form in Chinese export porcelain. The cherrot was the predecessor to the cigar and this vessel is the precursor to the modern ashtray. Crated in the shape of a tobacco leaf this tray has a large groove which was used to support the cheroot. Decorated in the traditional blue and white Canton pattern with star border, this piece dates ca. 1850. Provenance: ex. James Galley, Inc.
