Brush stokes are very soft, almost hazy. Palette is typical of artists attempting to catch the glowing effect of natural light at certain times of day. In wonderful carved frame, entire item measures apprx 26"H x 32"W.

An impressive cloud filled sky looms over head. Painting style is loose as if executed en plein air. Signed on lower right. Verso has three tags and two hand written labels with painting information. Country landscape. Oil on masonite, framed, 18-1/2" x 25". Tranquil scene depicts a rustic farm with a small cottage off to the left side and cows in the distance. Two small figures appear to be engaged in their daily chores. Painting style is precise and detailed. Verso has red and white Cleveland Museum Registrar's tag with a number of TR 12426/14. The record shows that the painting came into the museum in March of 1960 from the estate of Charles W. Williams and left in June of the same year. (Reason not listed). With painted gold, carved frame, entire item measures 21"H x 23-1/4"W.

Hunting scene depicts a small dog nabbing a duck. The animals are in a marsh-like setting with long reed leaves. The vignette is surrounded by an elaborate boarder of garlands and scrolling foliate shapes. This type of painting was used a guide for the creation of the Aubusson tapestries, much as a painter follows a cartoon. Originally the tapestries were hung from walls, however they were later used as floor coverings. Image measures apprx 31"H x 27"W. In carved and gold leaf frame, entire item measures apprx 40"H x 36"W.

Her expression is frank, gazing at the viewer with soft blue eyes. Measures apprx 18-1/2H x 13-1/2"W. In carved gilt frame, entire item measures apprx 24'H x 19"W.

Portraits of a Couple. Oil on canvas, not framed and not stretched. Formal half figure portraits depict the middle-aged gentlemen and lady in elegant clothing and pays careful attention to the presence of their jewels and gold. Also included is a smaller 3/4 view of a somber young man. Paintings came out of an old Cleveland estate and bear resemblance to the society portraits by Allen Smith Jr. Measure apprx 29-1/2"H x 23-1/2"W.

Title unknown, oil on canvas, signature not found. Assumed to have been trimmed down as imagery somewhat cropped. Mythological scene of floating nymphs playing on pipes and attired in swirling tunics. Composition and lines of whirling fabric paired with warm palette infuses this painting with great energy. Perhaps part of a mural piece rescued from a prominent Cleveland building, this painting is new to the market. In gold painted shaped frame, overall apprx 63-1/2" x 46-1/2".

Title unknown, oil on canvas, signature not found. Assumed to have been trimmed down as imagery somewhat cropped. Harvest allegory features a russet haired beauty bearing a bundle of wheat, about to be crowned by a hovering angle and assisted by other characters of the autumnal gathering festival. Overall apprx 63-1/2" x 46-1/2". Probably rescued from the same prominent Cleveland building as the prior lot, though the painting style of this picture is somewhat heavier. Framed as a pair with the prior lot.

A single figure walks down a rustic path and a sailboat can be seen in the mountain lake. Painting style although slightly naive is very detailed. California painter, Lathrop, is best known for her western scenes. Measures apprx 20"Hx 30" W. With wooden frame, entire item measures apprx 25"H x 35-1/2"W.
