250. Tang Dynasty Standing Burial Figure Earthen ware figure with pigments. Standing male attendant with clasped hands wears a long formal robe, and upswept hair. Figure features a peaceful round face. Traces in brown and black pigment especially around middle section. Glazing most likely being ancai or 'three-colour' glaze technique. Provenance: Acquired by Mrs. Carol Fisher-Sawyer-Bauman, (an associate of Swiss psychologist Carl G. Jung during WWII) purchased this from a Zurich art dealer who possibly acquired it via the Silk Route trade passage from China. Low relief carving features the figures of a bat or "awabi" as a symbol of good luck and three peaches as a symbol of longevity or fertility.
