First edition, 2 volumes, large folio, pp. [14], lxvii, [1], 862, [14] index; [6], 928, 56, [12] index; 32 plates and maps, a number of them either folding or double-page; list of subscribers in vol. 1; full contemporary paneled calf neatly rebacked, new black morocco labels with gilt lettering. The first edition is valuable for the original impressions of the fine series of maps by Herman Moll, including a very good one of America, a current chart of the Channel from observations by Edmund Halley, and a map of the Indies on Mercator's projection, with improvements by John Seller and Charles Price, showing the northern coast line and part of the west and south coasts of Australia, together with parts of Van Dieman's Land and New Zealand . 4,000/6,000 Sold $3,795.00 back to catalog |
