London: Dent, 1900. With an introduction by F. Max Muller. 384 pp. 24 plates from Indian sources, drawn especially for this edition by Stuart Hardy. Thick square 8vo, full crushed orange morocco with wide inner borders, elaborately decorated on both covers and back with gilt panels and Oriental geometrical designs in gilt and blind stampings; all edges gilt. Author's presentation inscription on half title. Beautifully printed by Ballantyne Press in unusually brilliant binding.Dutt was one of the first Indians in the British Indian civil service, who was a historian, an economist, a literatur, a great translator, a novelist, and a president of the Indian National Congress.
