Untitled (from The Basque Suite), silkscreen in colors. ca. 1970 - 1971, signed and numbered 63/150. Inner plate size 28" x 22", outer plate size 22" x 17". Overall in archival framing, apprx 43" x 37-1/4". Motherwell finished a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Stanford University in 1932; Graduate School of Philosophy at Harvard University in 1937; and Graduate School of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, New York in 1940. He had his first solo exhibition in the United States at Peggy Guggenheim's Art of This Century Gallery in 1944 and went on to become one of the leading artists of the Abstract Expressionist movement.
