The Basque Suite, pl. 4 , silkscreen in colors, published by Marlborough Graphics in 1970 , signed and numbered 63/150. Inner plate size 22" x 17", outer plate size 28" x 22". Overall in archival framing, apprx. 43" x 37-1/4". Motherwell finished a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Stanford University in 1932; Graduate School of Philosophy at Harvard University in 1937; and Graduate School of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, New York in 1940. He had his first solo exhibition in the United States at Peggy Guggenheim's Art of This Century Gallery in 1944 and went on to become one of the leading artists of the Abstract Expressionist movement. A major retrospective of his work was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1965.
