26. François N. Auguste Feyen-Perrin (French, 1826-1888)

"Leda and the Swan". Oil on canvas, framed. Painting in typical hazy style of the Barbizon School depicts the classical myth encounter between the Spartan queen and the god Zeus which produced the great beauty Helen. Painting style is loose and quick with a warm palette. Possibly a study for a mural. Signed on lower left. In carved bronze-leafed frame with name plaque, entire item measures apprx 45-3/4"H x 34"W.

Francois Feyen-Perrin was an esteemed painter and etcher, whose fine figure studies and landscapes earned him a noted reputation in Paris. He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1845 and studied under Lucien Cogniet and d'Yvon. He was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon, receiving medals of excellence in both 1865 and 1867.
