217. Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (French, 1824-1887)

"Salvator Rosa". Spelter cast sculpture of the Italian Baroque era painter (1615-1673). Dashing figure is attired in full cape, feathered cap and high boots. He carries his sketch book in his left hand. Name of artist inscribed to front of base and A. Carrier inscribed in back at base. Measures apprx 20"H.

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse trained as a goldsmith before entering the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1840 under the sponsorship of Pierre-Jean David dÂ’Angers. He worked in London from 1850 to 1855, designing ceramics and metalwork models for companies like. Many of his cast bronzes are of famous historical figures. His most notable pupil was Auguste Rodin.
