"Sailboats in Harbor, Normandy". Watercolor and ink on paper, framed under glass, 5-1/2" x 9-1/2", signed lower right. Study of boats in a brown palette with blue sky. In gilt liner, silk mat and gold leaf frame, entire item measures apprx 14-1/2"H x 18-1/4"H. Provenance: acquire from C. & J. Goodfriend, New York. Painting information on verso. Paris born, DeShayes was regular exhibitor in the Paris Salons from 1848 to 1867. He became known for his small delicate light filled landscape studies, which were compared to the works of Camille-Jean-Baptiste Corot and Eugene Boudin. 1,300/1,600 Sold $1,380.00 back to catalog |
