484. A Persian Manuscript Leaf, Isfahan, circa 1728 A.D.

Leaf two from a lavishly decorated Persian manuscript, "Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr ibn Sulaiman al-Gazuli". Pigment, ink and gold on paper, apprx 9" x 5-3/4" (149 x 231 mm). Islamic calligraphy and Isfahan decorated border. A most distinguished provenance, originally from a book given to Peter Ludwig by Hans Krause. Obtained as part of a group of leaves marked Peter Ludwig by the present owner from the J.P. Getty Museum in 1997 in a global transaction involving the de-accession to the current owner of more than thirty highly important works as partial payment for the Stammheim Missal, now in the Getty Museum Collection.
