29. Robert William Arthur Rouse (English, 1869-1950)
"Old Church, Stoke Mandeville". Oil on canvas mounted onto wood, signed "R. W. Arthur Rouse" on the bottom left corner. Image size approx. 7-3/4" x 11-3/4", framed overall approx. 13-1/2" x 17-1/2". Robert William Arthur Rouse was a landscape painter and etcher. He exhibited at the principal London galleries from 1882. He painted in London, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. He lived in London; Merton, Surrey; Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire; and Thame, Oxfordshire. there is a tag affixed to the verso of the panel and frame from Dowmunt Galleries, Surrey.

30. Julia F. Henshaw Dewey (American, 1871-1928)
Untitled landscape with a windmill. Oil on canvas, signed "Julia F. Henshaw Dewey" on the lower right corner. Image size approx. 16" x 11-1/2", framed overall approx. 21-1/2" x 17-1/2". Julia F. Henshaw was born c. 1871, Batavia, Genesee County, New York. She married Charles Melville Dewey in May 3, 1887 with whom she had been studying art. Julia Dewey maintained a studio at 222 West 23rd St., New York City. She exhibited at the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors (where she was one of the first presidents); the National Academy of Design from 1898; the Trans - Mississippi Expo, Omaha, Neb. in 1898. She was a member of National Arts Club, National Association of Women Painters and Sculpters, and the Society of American Artists.

32. Gyula Zorkoczy (Hungarian, 1873-1932)
Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Verso with Hungarian export stamp. Canvas apprx 21-1/2" x 27", with painted black frame apprx 26-3/4" x 33". Zorkoczy studied at the School of Model Drawing where he obtained a diploma in art teaching. His master was Bertalan Szekely. From 1907 on he exhibited naturalistic landscapes in the Art Gallery and the National Salon.

33. Vilmos Nagy (Hungarian, 1874-1953)
Oil on canvas, signed lower left. On wood stretcher, verso has old illegible tag affixed and Hungarian export stamp. Canvas not dated; not framed. Apprx 22" x 27". Nagy studied in Budapest and in Munich. He was the student of Karoly Lotz. His interiors, reminescent of the Benczur school, were exhibited in the Art Gallery. Several of his paintings are in the Hungarian National Gallery. For his painting “The Youth² he was awarded a gold medal in London in 1908, and in 1921 he won the prize of the Minister of Education for his picture “Interior".

36. Attributed to George Adomeit (American, 1879-1967)
Untitled. Oil on canvas, signature not found. Image depicts a man working near an open fire pit in a steel mill. Framed in beaded gilt wood frame. Image approx. 27" x 34-3/4", framed overall approx. 31" x 39". Born in Germany, George Adomeit came to the United States with his family in 1883, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he supported himself as a commercial artist and printmaker. He trained in commercial printing, studied at the Cleveland School of Art, and had a successful printing company known as the Caxton Press. He emerged in the 1920's as one of the region's leading painters of American Scene genre, especially known for industrial subjects. Many of his pictures are in the Cleveland Museum of Art.

38. Herman Lipot (Hungarian, 1884-1972)
"Vizparcon". Oil on canvas, signed lower right and dated 1965. Unframed, on keyed stretcher. Verso also signed with Hungarian export stamp. Apprx 24" x 31-1/2". Lipot studied at the Mintarajz School under Ede Ball, Lszl Hegeds and Tivadar Zemplnyi. He won the Munkcsy Prize, and he is considered a well respected and talented artist. His work was often exhibited, particularly at the Ernst Museum in Budapest.

40. August F. Biehle (American, 1885-1979)
Still life. Oil on canvas, signed right and dated left, 1921. In the original frame with tags on verso from an Akron, Ohio exhibition and registrar's tag from the Cleveland Museum of Art. This painting was the winner of the third prize award for the category "Still Life Decorative Painting" in the fourth annual May show of 1936. The actual certificate with mailing envelope accompanies this work. Canvas apprx 26" x 34", in frame apprx 30-1/2" x 38-1/2".

41. Frederick A. Zimmerman (American, 1886-1974)
"San Jacinto and Old Almond Orchard Near Beaumont, Calif." Oil on canvas over board, signed "Frederick A Zimmerman" on the lower left corner, dated '28. Image size approx. 11" x 14-3/4", framed overall approx. 16-1/2" x 20-1/4". Frederick Almond Zimmerman was a landscape painter, born in Canton, Ohio on Oct. 7, 1886. After graduating from high school in Canton, Zimmerman moved to Pasadena and enrolled at the University of Southern California. He further studied under Victor D. Brenner. He exhibited locally and was an instructor at the Pasadena Art Institute in 1962. Zimmerman died in Arcadia, CA on Nov. 27, 1974.

42. Leo Michelson (Latvian, 1887 - 1978)
"Three Musicians." Gouache and ink on paper laid on canvas, ca. 1965. Signature not found. In a carved wood gilt frame. Image size approx. 12-1/4" x 15-1/2", framed overall approx. 23" x 26". Page from an exhibition catalogue cut out and pasted on the back. Michelson was born in Riga, Latvia, and began his studies at the Imperial School in St. Petersburg. He later studied and lived in Munich, Berlin, Paris and the United States, becoming an American citizen in 1945. He was awarded the French Legion of Honor in February, 1937, and the Latvian Order of Merit in 1938. Provenance: From the collection of Tom Wilson, Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Wilson's collection spans several decades and includes wonderful Art Deco, sculpture, paintings and drawings from around the the world. Mr. Wilson is a well know cartoonist and creator of the character Ziggy.

"Mother and Children". Oil on canvas, signed lower right corner, framed, canvas size 12" x 10", with frame 19" x 17", framed in a heavily carved and antiqued Barbizon pattern frame. #8940 written on verso, and an illegible stamp below. A Dutch domestic scene which has maintained popularity for many years of a young mother holding a baby, attended by two small girls. It is a universal subject that many artists have specialized in, this being one of the more accomplished artists of the genre.
