261. Friedensreich Hundertwasser (Italian, 1928-2000)
"Good Morning City - Bleeding town". Silkscreen in sixteen colors with metal imprints in ten colors. Signature as a part of the image on the lower margin, numbered 6,160/10,000. Professionally framed and matted. Image size approx. 33" x 21-/4", framed overall approx. 39" x 27-1/4". World renowned artist, architect, and designer Friedensreich Hundertwasser was born in Italy in 1928. After a series of tragic events of First and Second World War, Hundertwasser began his lifelong travels. His first exhibition was held in Paris in 1954. He designed a series of medal-winning stamps for the United Nations. His exhibitions were held at all the continents and his works are part of many important collections.

266. Mark Turbyfill (American, 1896-1991)
"Pensive Observer". Washes on gessoed artist's board. Thickly applied ground medium in the shape of a Man, details and lines inscribed into wet medium, then colored. Signed lower left and dated 1955. In artist-decorated mat and wood frame. Titled on tag and in pencil on back of mat. Image size approx. 24" x 19", with mat and frame apprx 36" x 30". A Chicago native, Turbyfill helped to form what has been called the first black concert dance group, the Ballets Negre, which made its debut in 1931 at Chicago's annual Beaux Arts Ball and is most known as a ballet dancer and choreographer. He exhibited his work seriously after he began his friendship with abstract expressionist Mark Tobey. Turbyfills first solo exhibit was in 1948; in the 1950s and 60s he had a number of one-man gallery shows. In 1966 his work was included in the Art in the Embassies Program and some is in the permanent collection of American artists at the Smithsonian.

"Blue, Yellow, Red." Color silkscreen, signed "Kelly" on the lower right corner, numbered 51/100, in a gold metal frame, image size approx. 18" x 17-1/2", framed overall approx. 26" x 25-1/2". Three horizontal stripes of blue, yellow, and red.
An important American minimalist painter and sculptor, Ellsworth Kelly explains, "By removing the content from my work I shifted the visual reality of painting to include the space around it." Kelly was born May 31, 1923 in Newburgh, New York. He studied at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, from 1941 to 1943. After military service from 1943 to 1945, he attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, from 1946 to 1947.
Kelly studied art in Paris from 1948 to 1954, when postwar Paris was the home of European Abstraction and the avant-garde. He has executed many public commissions, including a mural for UNESCO in Paris in 1969, sculpture for the city of Barcelona in 1978, and a memorial for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, D.C., in 1993. Kelly's extensive work has been recognized in numerous retrospective exhibitions, including a sculpture exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, in 1982; an exhibition of works on paper and a show of his print works that traveled extensively in the United States and Canada from 198788; and a career retrospective in 1996 organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, which traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Tate Gallery, London; and the Haus der Kunst, Munich. Kelly lives in Spencertown, New York.
