Photogravure frontispieces, vignette titles, and plates, all on India paper mounted, from photographs and from drawings Anna Whelan Betts, Jessie Willcox Smith, Alice Barber Stephens, Howard Pyle, and others. Extra-illustrated with many plates in two states. Frontispiece in each volume signed by the artist. Descriptive tissue guards. Engraved frontispiece portrait on India paper mounted in Nathaniel Hawthorne. With a general introduction by Rose Hawthorne Lathrop and introductory and bibliographical notes by H.E. All 12 Volumes are in very good condition. The covers have moderate soiling and minor fading on the spine. Many of the hand colored albumen photographs are faded which is common with this series. Limited edition of 150 copies on Japon paper and two copies on vellum, for the Grolier Club of New York, in the month of May, 1885, of which this is number 147. Spine faded with loss to gilt. Near fine.
