571. Claude Conover (American, 20th Century)
"Nicnac", pottery vase, square shape with soft rounded edges and protruding neck. Impressed with a repetitions circle patterns, cross hatched design on 1-3/4"tall rim, overall brown colored, accents highlighted with a matte cream slip. Includes original plastic insert. Signed and "Claude Conover" on bottom with title. Purchased from the artist. Mr. Conover was the Ohio Arts Councils recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in 1983 and he was a member of the "Cleveland School" which was first used by Elrick Davis a 1928 article for the Cleveland Press, titled "Cleveland's Art Pioneers Have Put City in Front Rank in Creative Field.". This has the original plastic insert. Apprx 21" tall.

Second black mark service, ca, 1891-1926, with lidded tea pot, apprx 5"T, creamer apprx 3"T , sugar apprx 2"T and four cups with saucers, apprx 2"T and 5-1/4"D. All with luster and pink accents. Also included is a first black mark nautilus footed bowl, apprx 4"T. Additionally, an unmarked service in luster with blue accents and in nautilus style:tea pot, apprx 4"T, creamer apprx 2-5/8"T, two cups apprx 2"T and two saucers apprx 5-3/8"D. One of these cups inscribed in gold, "A gift from Ayr". One more, a cup and saucer in pink luster with strange reddish mark, apprx 1-3/4"T, apprx 4-3/4"D.
