Henshaw was born c. 1871, Batavia, Genesee County, New York. She married Charles Melville Dewey in May 3, 1887 with whom she had been studying art. Julia Dewey maintained a studio at 222 West 23rd St., New York City. She exhibited at the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors (where she was one of the first presidents); the National Academy of Design from 1898; the Trans - Mississippi Expo, Omaha, Neb. in 1898. She was a member of National Arts Club, National Association of Women Painters and Sculpters, and the Society of American Artists.
