| 243. Viktor Schreckengost (American, born 1906)
"St. Theodosius". Color offset lithograph, numbered and hand signed by the artist "78/110 Viktor Schreckengost" on the lower right corner, image size approx. 16-1/2" x 23", framed overall approx. 24-3/4" x 30-3/4". The son of a commercial potter in Sebring, Ohio, Viktor Schreckengost learned the craft of sculpting in clay from his father. In the mid-1920s, he enrolled at the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland Institute of Art, or CIA). In a diverse career that spans more than eight decades, Viktor Schreckengost made a major impact in a world of ceramics and industrial design. His artistic mediums encompass clay, hand-painted ceramics, sculpture, drawings, and paintings. This image comes from the first International Printing Corporation Cleveland Calendar. Schreckengost was honored to be the first of many artists commissioned to create 13 images for a yearly publication. In addition to the actual calendar, there were a series of 110 limited editions of each image signed in ink by the artist, larger than the calendar. These prints have become much sought after in the following years. 300/500 Sold $345.00 back to catalog |
