245. Viktor Schreckengost (American, born 1906)

"Cleveland Public Library." Color offset lithograph, signed by the artist on the lower edge, numbered 70/110, image size approx. 16-1/2"x 22-3/4", framed overall 24" x 30". The son of a commercial potter in Sebring, Ohio, Viktor Schreckengost learned the craft of sculpting in clay from his father. In the mid-1920s, he enrolled at the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland Institute of Art, or CIA). In a diverse career that spans more than eight decades, Viktor Schreckengost made a major impact in a world of ceramics and industrial design. His artistic mediums encompass clay, hand-painted ceramics, sculpture, drawings, and paintings.
