| 193. George Adomeit (American, 1879-1967)
"Gates Mills." Watercolor on paper, signed "Geo G. Adomeit" on the lower right corner. Matted and in a wood gilt frame with traces of red. Image size approx. 10" x 13-1/2", framed overall approx. 16-1/2" x 19-1/2". Born in Germany, George Adomeit came to the United States with his family in 1883, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he supported himself as a commercial artist and printmaker. He trained in commercial printing, studied at the Cleveland School of Art, and had a successful printing company known as the Caxton Press. He emerged in the 1920's as one of the region's leading painters of American Scene genre, especially known for industrial subjects.
