| 139. Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778)
"Remains of the Temple of Apollo Near the Adviana Villa close to Tivoli." A first state engraving on thick creme color laid paper with watermark. Artist, engraver, and architect, Giovanni Battista Piranesi was never successful commercially; however, he earned a reputation of "Rembrandt of architecture." He also was one of the most authoritative archeologists of his time. 800/1,200 Sold $603.75 back to catalog |
