Reversed Painting Icon on Glass. Brown wood frame. Image approx. 16"H x 13-3/4"W, framed overall approx. 19-1/2"H x 17-1/2"W. Father Train Timotei Tohaneanu, born in Romania, a monk and a priest at the Brancoveanu Monstery, was self-taught on painting on glass for over 25 years, mixing for colors from Romanian soil. Among his many duties at the Monastery he taught the young monks the art of painting ions on glass and native scenes, more of the Transylvanian scenic arts and crafts. These crafts have been done in the past centuries and forgotten for over 70 years, until he brought back the art to life in all its form and beauty. He was the only artist in the entire country doing this fine art work. His exhibits at at Lugano, Switzerland and in Belgium, as well as Romania Brought him great acclaim.
