351. Daniel Chester French (American 1850 - 1931)

"Seated Lincoln", hollow form bronze with brown patina, inscribed on verso "D.C. French 1915". Edge near base inscribed "Caste Fr/Sculptor's Plaster Maquette". Apprx 10"T. Possibly, one of at least two that were cast in the artist's studio using Daniel Chester French's original clay model. The model would be artist's original work f art. The subject plaster would be a first generation casting of it. Reportedly this was the one presented to Congress for approval and is probably the only extent sculpture of this period of creation in good condition. It is worth noting that this plaster exhibits Abraham Lincoln with his left foot advanced. This was changed to the right foot being advanced when the image was pointed up to the six-foot version.
