12. Basile De Loose (Belgian, 1809-1885)

Untitled domestic scene with the father surrounded by his wife and children near the fireplace, and a carpenter working in another room. Signed and dated "De Loose 1863" on the lower right corner. Carved ornate gilt frame; not matted. Image approx. 32"H x 28"W, framed overall approx. 40"H x 36-1/2"W. Brussels, the Belgian capital, was the centre of artistic activity in the nineteenth century and Basile de Loose rented a studio there from 1837. He specialized in domestic and interior scenes, which mostly depict casual family moments.
