569. Jan (Joanne) Jansson (Dutch ca. 1588-1664)
Issued for the "Nouvel Atlas ou Theatre du Mondre. Representant l'Allemagne avec toutes sese parties, comprennant tout le Corps de l'Empire Romain" in Amsterdam, 1644. Ad attractive mid 17th century folio size copper plate engraved map with antique coloring. Ornate title cartouche and distance scale. Coat of arms at top left with sailing ships and compass rose. Includes numerous cities with swash lettering along bottom. Text in Latin on verso. Image apprx 14-1/2" x 19" sheet apprx 19-2/16" x 22-3/4". Joannes Jansson was a cartographer and co-worker of, and later, the successor to Hendrik Hondius. He later became his successor when he married the daughter of his master Hondius. Jan Jansson was the business rival of Blaeu and had no restraints in copying from his rival. After Jansson's death, the publishing company was continued by his brother-in law, Waesberg.

Sheet size apprx 21-1/4" x 24-1/2". Antique coloring and elaborate figurative cartouch. Published in Amsterdam by the Homann Heirs, ca. 1738.

Two (2) "Comitatus Rotelandiae Tabula Nova & Aucta", copper plate engraving from Gibson's edition of William Camden's Britannia, 1695, sold by Swale, Churchil and Partners. A view of Northampton Shire with ornate cartouches and antique coloring. Image apprx 11-2/16" x 14". Not measured out of mats nor inspected out of protective wraps.
"A map of Rutlandshire from the best Authorities", engraved by J. Cary, copper plate engraving with antique coloring, image apprx 16-1/2" x 18-1/2", sheet size apprx 17-1/4" x 19-1/2". Center re-inforced on the back and has creases from being folded.
"RUTLANDIAE Omnium in Anglia Comitatu um minimum Pars olim CORITANORUM", copper plate engraving by William Kip, ca. 1637 from the third edition of Camden's "Britannia". Image apprx 11" x 8-1/4". Losses to margins and restoration to upper corner and right margin replaced.
"Oukham", a copper plate engraved map from John Speede's Rutlandshire, ca. 1627, antique hand coloring, not inspected out of mat or protective wrap. Image apprx 5" x 5-3/4".
