| 18. Alfred Stannard (British, 1806-1889)
Untitled scene with two cows near a lake. Oil on wood panel, signed and dated 1830 and "Pinx" (painted this), on the lower left corner. Panel size approx. 6-3/4" x 5-1/4". Framed in a newer gilded frame with leaf corner ornaments. The cows rest on the riverbank; in front of them are a small rowboat and ducks on the water. In the distance sailboats are seen and a windmill is on the opposite bank. The tower in rear would seem to be that of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Antwerp. Alfred Stannard along with his brother Joseph Stannard belonged to the Norwich School of Painters, which was a school of English artists in the early 19th Century. 800/1,500 Sold $1,178.75 back to catalog |
